Our History
On May 8, 1967, a meeting of pastors, missionaries, and representatives from eight churches across the state of Florida met in North Port Charlotte to discuss a proposed constitution for a new statewide fellowship of churches. Then subsequently on September 25, 1967, official actions were taken to adopt the proposed constitution and articles of faith, and the Sunshine Baptist Fellowship was brought into being.
Over time there have been a growing number of churches that have chosen to affiliate with the Fellowship, along with a growing number of unaffiliated Baptist and Bible churches who are at various levels of participation. Many of these churches have matured from their founding to have congregations of several hundreds, with multiple ministries. The Fellowship served as the catalyst to bring Camp Sparta (Sebring, FL) and Spurgeon Baptist Bible College (Mulberry, FL) into self governing autonomous ministries.
The Fellowship continues to strengthen and grow in its services to the affiliated and unaffiliated churches throughout an expanding region, while providing a dynamic source of fellowship. Any individual or local church is welcome to attend and participate in the various meetings throughout the year.
